By APGA Publicity Committee
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa yesterday, joined the vibrant congregation of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), Awka Diocese, for their landmark 40th Youth Day Celebration and Cultural Fiesta.
The event was held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Adazi-Nnukwu, Anambra State.
The celebration commenced with a solemn Holy Mass, presided over by the Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Evariatus Ifeanacho, who attended as the Secretary and personal representative of the Bishop of Awka Diocese. The mass was concelebrated by a host of reverend fathers, drawing a large gathering of faithful and youth members from across the diocese.
A highlight of the religious ceremony was the deeply impactful homily delivered by Fr. Ifeanacho. The address provided a poignant moment for reflection as it thoughtfully explored the true meaning and value of indigenous culture. The homily powerfully contrasted authentic cultural heritage with learned societal negativities that are often disguised as tradition.
The clergy specifically highlighted the pressing challenges posed by the prevalent "quick money" syndrome and other materialistic vices threatening the moral fabric of the younger generation. The message served as a clarion call for a return to core values of hard work, honesty, and community.
In his address during the event, Chief Barr. Ezeokenwa seized the opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude to the Catholic Church for its unwavering role in society. He commended the Church for steadfastly serving as a crucial moral compass, guiding the youth towards a path of responsibility, integrity, and spiritual fulfillment.
The APGA National Chairman further extended commendations to the Anambra State Government, led by Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR. He lauded the state government’s proactive and laudable efforts in reshaping the moral and entrepreneurial framework of the state’s young population.
Chief Ezeokenwa specifically highlighted the administration’s innovative initiatives, such as the ‘1 Youth 2 Skill’ empowerment program, which is actively engaging thousands of youths in sustainable development and skill acquisition, providing them with viable alternatives to social deviance.
Emphasizing the core philosophy that unites both the Church and the State Government, the APGA Chairman stated, “When we build the Youth, we build the Nation. Investing in their character, their skills, and their future is the most fundamental investment any society can make for enduring development.”
The event, which also featured a colorful cultural fiesta displaying the rich heritage of the Igbo people, was declared a resounding success. It provided a perfect synergy of faith, culture, and leadership, all focused on securing a brighter future for Nigerian youth.
